March 13th 2020 the world started to change for the events management industry...rumours of impending restrictions were quickly becoming accepted as inevitable and one last weekend of work was on the cards. At The Entertainment Company we were setting up an event at The Fairmont Hotel in St.Andrews for a major drinks company as a thank you to their staff for all their hard work the previous year.
After 5 months of planning meetings and site visits we had a dozen vans on site full of props, décor, sound & lighting, interactive games, LED poseur tables & chairs, scaffolding for a Silk aerial act, cherry pickers, Fireworks, dozens of staff on site & acts heading for London Stanstead Airport to fly up to Edinburgh Airport where a car would transport them to their accommodation in St.Andrews. Then 5:30pm came....meeting....the client had decided that due to what was expected the following week it would be inappropriate for the event to go ahead...and that as they say was that, the work stopped...all future events postponed, some until later in the year and some until 2021...then as the lockdown continued the postponed jobs were put on hold indefinably or cancelled. So what do we do??? sit and wallow in self pity.....sell all our stock and hope we can replace it later on....close up shop and work in a warehouse distributing everything from books to tea bags???? That's not us, not what we do!!!! Over the last few months we have worked at realigning for what we think will be the 'new normal'...whilst we will still be in a position to deliver our high end large budget events for our existing and new blue chip clients, we have invested a new products and services to compliment the many individual customers and smaller events we love working on. What's new I hear you ask!! At the beginning of the year in partnership with InSide Out Food & Drink we completed our new custom built commercial kitchen, housed inside our head office in Johnstone. While we wait for restrictions to become a thing of the past and larger weddings, corporate events etc to return, we have continued to service (within restriction guidelines) smaller more intimate weddings. We have also started delivering high quality ready meals, delivering high quality catering direct to your door. As venues remain shut or operating at reduced capacity, and with availability in 2021 (and probably beyond) looking restricted we have upped the investment in our Marquee Hire section. With a range of new marquees we are able to service anything from small back garden events to remote weddings anywhere in Scotland. We also offer a full furniture table & chair hire service to complement your marquee hire. We continue to offer the same high quality prop & décor service we have become renowned for and look forward to planning everything from Christmas to Baronial events in the future.
